Already in the year 2007 we offered vegan food in our former BIO Restaurant (Cantina Verde) in Neu-Isenburg/close to Frankfurt. At that time it was completely new for me. When I launched the Mineral Cosmetics in 2011, it was clear to me that it had to be completely vegan. It all started when I learned that the most expensive Kabuki brushes were made from squirrel tails and some of them still are. This horrified me so much that I checked all the ingredients to see if they contained animal additives. With the minerals I had the right nose, because they are vegan by nature. With other products, like lipsticks and mascara, it is sometimes really difficult to impossible to produce them vegan. But we did it anyway.
In my private life and also in business I try not to walk around with a raised forefinger. But products for the cosmetics industry or other re-users are logically almost always obtained from factory farming. Brush hairs (almost always) come from fur farms, which take horribly brutal action against the creatures.
We think it is important to make sure that we do not only eat vegetarian or vegan food but also look at the products we usually consume and see in which products animals have been processed that have been bred and killed in the cruelest way for that purpose. I hope that this will soon come to an end and that all living beings will be able to live a mindful life. And I perceive more and more joyfully that the development to more consciousness turns and the vegan movement becomes stronger.
